Illustration for Cleveland Magazine's "Cleveland Myths" package based on local folklore. There is a ball shaped monument in Myrtle Hill Cemetery that is said to be the haunted grave of a witch who poisoned her family. The legend may be based off of Martha Hazel Wise, who poisoned 17 family members in the region in 1924 and reportedly claimed the devil made her do it. Her victims are buried in the cemetery, but she herself is not.
